Shalala (Erna Ómarsdóttir)

Erna graduated from PARTS in Belgium in 1998 under direction of Anna Teresa De Keersemaeker. Since then she has worked as a dancer with various companies and choreographers including Troubleyn / Jan Fabre, creating and dancing various works, among others, the solo My movements are alone like streetdogs that was nominated for the “Benois de la dance” Price at the Bolshoi Theater of Moskva in 2002.Since 2002 she has worked with Les Ballets C de la B and Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, creating and performing Foi.During the same period Erna has actively pursued her own work . Her most projects include IBM - 1401, a User’s Manual and The Mysteries of Love created in collaboration with the musician/composer Jóhann Jóhannsson, Poni (Projects 1 and 2), a collective initiated by Frank pay, Ófætt, in collaboration with Damien Jalet and the visual artist Gabríela Friðriksdóttir, We are all Marlene Dietrich FOR, in collaboration with the director Emil Hrvatin for the Iceland Dance Company. These works have been performed all over Europe, invited to some of the most renowned festivals and venues. Erna also established among others Ekka Dance Theatre in Reykjavík 1996. She has been mentioned several times in the Ballet Tanz as an Outstanding Performer and Choreography. She has twice received “Gríman” the Icelandic theatre and dance award (2003 and 2005) and was in 2006 selected the artist of her town in Iceland, Kópavogur. Website:  For further information contact:
