The Nordic Drama Train stopped at Husets Teater in Copenhagen February 22nd – 24th. The 5 works of the 5 award-winning playwrights selected for the Train this season was stage read within a festival setting. Initiated by Performing Arts Iceland, during the Nordic Performing Arts Days in August last year, the train is organized jointly by the members of the Nordic Theatre Union.

The Reading Festival at Husets Teater was a unique opportunity to experience the best new Nordic drama close up and to meet some of the playwrights themselves. During three intense days and with a lot of curious spectators, a selected team of Danish and Swedish directors and actors gave their bid for a staged reading - of the selected works by by Peter Asmussen (GB), Arne Lygre (NO), Martina Montelius (SE), Bragi Olafsson (IS) and Tuomas Timonen (FIN). Dramafronten hosted an exciting panel discussion with the Icelandic and Norwegian playwrights, and the three directors Simon K. Boberg, Mia Lipschitz and Swedish Johan Melin. The playwright and director Rhea Leman (US/DK) moderated the discussion that came to revolve around questions like: What are the special features of Nordic drama? Does Nordic drama has a common denominator? And finally how has the multicultural revolution influenced theater and drama?

The train now takes off to LeikREAD - Nordic Reading Festival in the Faroe Islands on 15 -16. March, on to the Swedish Performing Arts biennal in Jönköping in Sweden in May and finally to Tampere Theatre Festival in Finland in August.
