Vesturports Metamorphosis on stage in Washington

Vesturport is on tour through Boston, Washington and then heading to Canada this month with their renowned production Metamorphosis. Tonight they will be performing at Nordic Cool 2013 at the Kennedy Center in Washington, USA.

The Nordic Cool is a month long international festival of theater, dance, music, visual arts, literature, design, cuisine, and film aimed to highlight the diverse cultures of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden as well as the territories of Greenland, the Faroe Islands, and Áland Islands.

Vesturport was selected to represent Icelandic Theatre in an attempt to answer key questions on what is Nordic.

Performing Arts Iceland contacted one of Vesturports members, actress, singer and director Selma Björnsdóttir, right before the last rehearsal today.

Selma how has the preparation for the big night been going?

The preparation has been going well as we have all performed Metamorphosis before in more than one country, therefore we are feeling quite calm and confident for tonight´s performance. We have rehearsed twice since we arrived in Washington and last night we had our last technical run-through and we are very optimistic about the performance tonight and we are looking forward to it.

Do you have any expectations regarding the outcome of this performance at the Kennedy Center?

We expect nothing really except of course it is our hope that our audience will be satisfied and happy with our three performances that are about to be on stage here in Washington. This show has always been well appreciated and applauded where ever we have performed it. Metamorphosis is a piece about the co-existance of human beings and it seems to bridge cultural differences.
