  • A gem of Icelandic playwriting, Hard a port, is a mesmerising work with surprising relevance to our times. The play, which premiered in 1962, touched the nation in a very special way. Jonatan, now an old man living in a hovel with his daughter, the fortuneteller and prostitute Áróra and her son, the loafer Láki, once was the captain of a big liner, the pride of the Icelandic nation. The ship stranded on its first voyage, and the consequences of the accident have tormented the family ever since.
