  • The opera Stray Bird is about death. Messíana Tómasdóttir has adapted her text from Hans Christian Anderson’s story The Mother in Steingrímur Thorsteinsson’s Icelandic translation, and Rabindranath Tagore’s poem-cycle Stray Birds in Magnús Á. Árnason’s translation. The libretto utilizes Tagore’s poetic synthesis to tell the story of a mother who loses her child, transferring Anderson’s emphasis from the mother to the child, who here appears as an adolescent. The music is partly live and partly electronic.
